Service Learning

Vanguard Students donate more than 2,000 hours to the community each school year. Vipers earn credit and are exposed to a variety of careers at various locations, including:

  • Day Care Centers
  • Grade Schools
  • Auto Shops
  • Bakeries
  • Office/Clerical positions
  • Newspaper
  • Trophy Shop
  • Bike Shop
  • Nursing Homes

Service Learning is an integral part of the Vanguard program. Every Viper spends half of his or her school day engaged in service learning. Students are assigned to a service learning site based on their strengths and interests. Vipers have the opportunity to change sites several times per year.

Students with morning service leave school via bus after Team. They return to Vanguard for lunch at 11:30 a.m. and have afternoon classes. Students with afternoon service attend classes in the morning, have lunch at 11:00 a.m., and then leave for service via school bus at 11:30 a.m. These students return for 2 p.m. dismissal.

Students earn two points of service credit each day they attend service learning. A service learning credit is earned for each 100 points earned.
